Watson's Greenhouse & Nursery and Windmill Gardens Cultivate Gardeners Throughout Puyallup and Sumner

Windmill Gardens

Windmill Gardens offers dozens of varieties of roses.

Whether you’re a master gardener or just trying to get the hang of hanging baskets‚ there’s no shortage of foliage and friendly advice at Windmill Gardens in Sumner and Watson’s Greenhouse & Nursery in Puyallup.

The growers both date back decades‚ and their development over the years is a testament both to the area’s love of greenery and the owners’ commitment to quality products.

For Windmill Gardens‚ which moved from an all-wholesale operation into the retail side of things in 1982‚ it’s always been about service. Now with a wide array of classes and related businesses on site‚ it’s a one-stop shop for experts and amateurs alike.

“I go after the best gardeners I can find for our classes so that everyone who comes to Windmill will be able to take these plants home and be successful‚” says Dottie Tate‚ coordinator of classes and events and a master gardener herself.

Over at Watson’s‚ which has grown from a you-pick vegetable concern in 1974 to more than 30‚000 square feet of greenhouse space‚ the emphasis is the same: provide quality merchandise‚ and make sure people know about proper care and maintenance.

“We were selling vegetables out of our garage‚ and then we built a greenhouse so we could sell a few plants along with the vegetables‚” recalls Dan Watson‚ who along with his wife and daughters manages the operation. “We opened for retail in 1984‚ and by that time we had five greenhouses. We kept adding on to them‚ doubled the retail area‚ and by 1999‚ we built our new facility greenhouse.”
